London: An 81-year-old Swedish man was stunned to read his own obituary in a local newspaper, which was printed after a misunderstanding between doctors and his family.
Sven-Olof Svensson, a pensioner from southern Sweden was admitted to hospital on Christmas Eve after he was feeling unwell.
His sister spoke to the doctor over the phone and got the impression that her brother had passed away, 'The Local' reported.
She quickly write an obituary which was published in the newspaper on New Year's Eve.
However, Svensson's friend who was sent to the hospital to collect his personal items saw him alive sitting up in bed.
"You can see the humour in it. It's understandable to me that there may have been a mistake even if it was fatal in this case," Svensson told the Jonkopings-Posten newspaper, which published the obituary.
"According to my sister she rang up the doctors and talked about me and, as she understood it, I had died. It's clear that she was shocked," he said.
Svensson laughed off the blunder which he has taken in good spirits by welcoming a reporter from the paper for a follow-up story.
When asked how he reacted when he read his own life summed up in a paper, Svensson said "you don't feel much".
