Pingtung will add a female figure to all its existing pedestrian crossing signs (Representational Image)
A lonely figure who helps pedestrians cross the road safely in a southern Taiwanese city will soon be getting a girlfriend. Except... he's not human. Neither is she. Taiwan's Pingtung county announced it will add a female figure to all its existing pedestrian crossing signs, reports Taiwan News. The odd move, according to the news website, is to save those stuck in traffic "from the boredom of waiting."
The green "go" sign and red "stop" sign are currently represented by male figures.
The move will see the couple hold hands while crossing the road when the light is green. When the light turns red, the male figure will bend down on one knee and propose to his partner. A beating heart will then appear between them.
Taiwan News reports that the Pingtung government has already issued a tender for the new traffic lights, so, it won't be long before the loved up couple appears in traffic lights across the city.
Sweet or silly? What do you think of the initiative? Let us know in the comments section below.
