Tattoos, now a part of garba

Ahmedabad: A tattoo to match your swirling garba skirts - that's the latest on offer this Navratri.

If you think floral patterns, tribal designs are passé, well try the Chinese dragons.

''We pick up a design on the basis of the colours used in the chania cholis, also on the figure of the person. If someone is tall, we give her Chinese designs. If she is short, we choose a nature-based design,'' said Rite Champawat, Tattoo artist.

Garba enthusiasts say tattoos and body paintings sharpen the look. So one can cut down on accessories and dance freely.

''It enhances your look. You appear different from the others. You know all eyes are focused on you,'' Usha, garba participant.

If fashion is fast, festival organisers seem faster. Believe it or not, Ahmedabad garbas have already announced prizes for the best tattoos!
