Are you among those who've stood in long lines and/or returned empty-handed from banks in search of new notes to replace your banned currency? If yes, chances are you'll agree with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's redefinition of the term ATM.
Ms Banerjee led a 1-kilometre march from Parliament House to the Rashtrapati Bhawan earlier today with parliamentarians from her party, BJP ally Shiv Sena and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah demanding a rollback of the government's currency ban. She also gave 'ATM' a whole new full form.
Of course, 'ATM' correctly expanded is Automated Teller Machine and not All/Any Time Money, but Ms Banerjee's coining of a new phrase was received with delight by social media which lives for moments like this.
Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sprung a massive surprise on the country by summarily scrapping 500 and 1000 rupee notes. It sent millions across India scurrying to banks to exchange, withdraw and deposit. ATM machines, which were meant to have begun working two days after Mr Modi's announcement, took longer than estimated to be recalibrated. Reports of several machines running out of cash have hogged headlines and there are websites and apps now that help citizens find a working ATM near them.
'All Time Money' and 'Any Time Money' is what all of us facing a cash crunch are wishing fervently for. Some WhatsApp forwards also suggest renaming ATMs to HTMs - Honge To Milenge.
