After 19 terribly long years, the elusive (and woefully missed) Bill Watterson, the legend behind the phenomenally successful comic strip, Calvin and Hobbes, decided to make a brief comeback. Yes, you heard that right. He's made a comeback, but only for a charitable cause.
"So long, Pop! I'm off to check my tiger trap!", said Calvin, starting a journey that went on from 1985 to 1995 in newsprint, and an eternal one on our hearts. A recluse and an urban legend, Bill Watterson made a guest appearance in Stephen Pastis' comic strip, Pearls Before Swine. In this strip, Pastis' character meets a second grader, Libby, who takes over the comic strip. The storyline plays on the self-criticism that Pastis often indulges in, regarding his limited artistic skills.
Pastis recounts his interaction and the experience of his collaboration with the 'bigfoot' of the comic strip world in his blog:
The original work by Watterson will be auctioned off to raise money for the Parkinson's charity organisation, Team Cul de Sac later in the year.
