Highlights

  • Bill hopes to learn French, Arabic or Mandarin soon to match up.

At his third appearance at the Reddit AMAs (Ask Me Anything - where users get to ask, well, anything), Bill Gates shared his views about the future of Microsoft, where technology will head in 30 years, immortality and Secret Santa, among a host of other things. Yes. He literally WAS asked anything and the cool chap that Bill is, had no issues replying.

Bill also took this opportunity to tell everyone about the annual letter that Melinda Gates and he had written, where they talk about their wish to make living conditions better for the world over the next 15 years.

But the thing that's got most people talking is something that Mark Zuckerberg can do, but Bill cannot leaving him feeling pretty stupid.

Answering a question by redditor @kingoftheanthill about whether there is anything he regrets doing or not doing, Bill replied that he doesn't know any foreign languages and hopes that he'll get time to learn French, Arabic or Mandarin. Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Facebook, on the other hand had conducted a question-and-answer session with Chinese students in Mandarin, which left Bill amazed. We give Mark one point. But also a point to Bill for honesty.

Also, for the record, the things that Bill splurges on (apart from his own personal jet) are tennis shoes and racquets. I repeat: this billionaire thinks buying tennis shoes is 'splurging'.

Please let us all find a proverbial chullu ka paani big enough for ourselves and an empty well for the wardrobe full of things that we own only because we didn't have any self-control.

Secret Santa was another topic discussed, which if you're not a Reddit member it will seem like an odd question to ask. People from across the world play Secret Santa with strangers on Reddit, sending each other three gifts for the happy season. Bill received a hand-made quilt, maple syrup and the book, The Promise of a Pencil by Adam Braun.

A difficult job well done by Bill's Secret Santa, don't you think?
