A new commercial, released on Women's Day on March 8, is winning praise for challenging more than one obsolete tradition related to marriages in our country.
The video shows the father of a prospective groom in conversation with his mother. He and his wife have just returned after meeting their new in-laws to be. Through their conversation we get to know that this is not an arranged match. The groom and bride met, fell in love, decided to get married and subsequently asked their parents to meet to take things forward.
"Aaj kal toh log internet par dekh kar shaadi kar lete hain. Humare ladke ne ladki aur uske pariwar se milwa toh diya..." says the grandmother.
She seems a little hesitant to say more but after her son prods her to share her thoughts she finally lets him in on her reservations. "Humare samay mein toh shaadi se pehle len-den ki baat hoti thi," she says.
As her daughter-in-law looks up in surprise, the son astonishes his mother by saying: "Haan, hui na len-den ki baat." He then goes on to mention the car, jewellery, and cash details discussed with the new family.
However, there's a little twist waiting to be revealed when he's done. And this one makes everyone smile.
We'll let you watch the video to find out how this cringe-worthy discussion suddenly turns into a delightful one.
