Picture this: you are at a burger joint, desperate to order a cravebuster - and this is on the menu you're holding. Would you order this?

Yes, it's a burger and it's black. It's safe to say this is nothing like you've ever eaten before at your local diner.

Burger King Japan's new all-black burger with black buns, sauce and even black cheese is walking the thin line between gross and delish.

To make juicy, flavourful burgers with a local twist has been done before - many times - but this sets a new benchmark.

Burger King started selling the Premium Kuro (black) Burger in Japan in 2012, colouring the bread with bamboo charcoal and adding squid ink to the sauce.

Last year, it upped its game and introduced the 'Black Ninja' Burger with bacon for a tongue.

And this year, the cheese has gone black as well. No, it's not made of plastic. It's made by smoking regular burger cheese using bamboo charcoal.

These new inventions will be available from 19 September, only in Japan.
