Asked about his happiest moment, the young chef describes his first chance interaction with the love of his life and future wife.
"I've always wanted to be a Chef and many opportunities were denied to me because of my disability," says a Mumbai-based chef on the Humans of Bombay Facebook page. "I was born deaf and dumb, but because of learning how to lip read since a young age - I can now manage to speak...although it may sound a bit different to you," he explains.
In the post, which was put up yesterday, the unnamed chef, begins by talking about the worst phase of his life when he didn't have money or a job. Finally, a year ago, he got an opportunity to work in a kitchen. "I haven't looked back since - my work speaks for itself. I've been given increments and appreciated for my efforts. It feels great to be treated normally and even better to be called, 'Chef'."
Asked about his happiest moment, the young chef describes his first chance interaction with the love of his life and future wife. "A few years ago I saw this girl at Dadar market and liked her, but I never spoke to her at that time. Months later his friend found him a match."
Fate had managed to play cupid for the chef because she was the same girl he had seen at the market. "As it turns out, she was deaf as well," he says.
Numbers were exchanged and a first date was set up. "When we met, we didn't need a lot of words... we both were given the same disability but that somehow made us feel even more connected to each other.
"I knew when I first saw her that I wanted to marry and when she said yes... that moment I'll never forget," he adds.
The chef then goes on to sum up his relationship with his wife in the last two lines of the post. While he says his relationship isn't unlike others, there's just a little bit that makes theirs slightly different.
