This Class 11 Student Went on a Hunger Strike for a Better School
Students had been asking for basic facilities like toilets, laboratories, and even teachers for a long time.
In far corner of Kerala, a 17-year-old student, Shahal, went on an indefinite hunger strike on August 17 to get basic amenities for his school, reported Mathrubhumi.com. And he succeeded - within just three days.

Students at the Government Higher Secondary School in Malappuram district's Ponmundam had been asking for basic facilities like toilets, laboratories, and even proper staff and teachers for the school for a long time. But so far, the authorities had turned a deaf ear to their pleas. The teachers had to pitch in with money from their own pocket to keep things running.

But yesterday, after Shahal's three-day hungerstrike, the authorities gave in. The district collector met the boy - who had to be hospitalised the day before - and assured him of providing proper facilities for the school.

The work will start after Onam - the state's big harvest festival, which begins on August 27.
