Some are inspiring, some terrifying, but each is an incredible lesson in survival. Here's a similar tale, shared by a grandmother on the Humans of Bombay Facebook page and made beautiful because it's also a love story.
Recalling her time in Pakistan, this senior citizen's story is about meeting the love of her life in Lahore, getting married during the Partition and starting a life from scratch in India. She talks about how, in those terrifying times, a Muslim friend helped them escape a city fermenting with communal hatred.
The couple had a beautiful life together with five children and 15 grandchildren. They even re-visited Pakistan. Now, even though her husband is no longer alive, she says he left "a lifetime of memories to keep me going."
