If you've ever had to stay home from work with a cold or a stomach upset and then had to scramble for a doctor's note, this Reddit post will strike a chord. There is no medical test for the small illnesses that waylay us and usually the best cure is a day in bed.
But office requires a doctor's endorsement and you can only hope that the doctor believes you and writes a letter excusing you from work.
So, when a Reddit user shared a letter his friend, a Pizza Hut employee, got from a doctor saying, 'my friends work requires a doctor's note if you call in sick,' a lot of people instantly related to it.
In the letter, the doctor asks the company to stop wasting his time and the patient's.
The letter says:
"To Whom it may concern; **** has had, by their own report, a cold today and sensibly stayed hom from work rather than spreading this to his colleagues/customers. I have no test for the common cold and therefore believe him/her, however, you feel his time and mine should be wasted by making him sit in the walk in clinic for hours and me spending time writing a sick note that I could be spending on people who genuinely need attention.
Please reconsider your policy on this-there are surely better ways of wasting your tax dollars."
