There wasn't a dry eye in the house when Deepika Padukone went on stage to collect her Best Actress Trophy at the Filmfare Awards on January 15. With this video posted by Sony Entertainment Television on Facebook some 22 hours ago, there's little chance you'll be spared the waterworks either.
Dressed in red, Deepika went on stage to accept the award which celebrates her stellar performance in Piku, a film about the relationship of a young woman with her father. She felt it was only fitting then to read out a letter from her father, Prakash Padukone, as her acceptance speech.
Fighting back tears, Deepika read out the letter which talks about Mr Padukone's early badminton days and his refusal to complain or whine about challenges. "There is no substitute for perseverance, hard work, determination, and passion for what you do. If you love what you do, nothing else matters," Deepika read out aloud.
In the letter, Mr Padukone also expressed his early fears and subsequently overcoming them when a young Deepika decided to move to a big city to pursue a career in modeling. "If you succeeded it would have made us proud but even if you didn't you would not have any regrets that you didn't try," she read.
"If you occasionally wonder why we refuse to treat you like a star it's because you are our daughter first and a film star later. The camera that follows you everywhere and the arc-lights will eventually fade. What will remain is the real world," Mr Padukone wrote in his letter, which is laden with advice every parent hopes to share with their children at some point.
Dedicating her award to her parents, Deepika ended her speech with a promise to parents all over the world on behalf of all children - words that fetched her tremendous applause from the audience and a standing ovation from
Bajirao Mastani co-star Ranveer Singh.
We'll let you watch the video to really feel the emotions she clearly did on stage. Watch this one with your parents.
