A mother's distressed tweet addressed to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has helped parents locate their 15-year-old daughter who had run away from home with a classmate.
Late night on January 29, Sangita Prasad Naray, a resident of Maharashtra, sent an SOS tweet to both @RailMinIndia and @sureshpprabhu saying: "Girl eloped with 10 th class mate by Geetanjali just passed Bushabal station help."
She also attached a picture of her daughter with other contact information for both the missing teens.
The Ministry of Railways replied to the tweet almost immediately and sprang into action. The very next day, Mrs Naray's daughter had been found:
"A tweet to @sureshpprabhu helped a father in distress and saved two innocent kids from falling in wrong hands," the Chief Public Relations Officer for Central Railways, Mumbai, tweeted the next day.
This isn't the first time the Railway Ministry has taken prompt action after being asked for help on Twitter.
Earlier, a woman tweeted to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu about a passenger harassing her and was immediately attended to by authorities. In another case, a man asked for a wheelchair and assistance for his ailing father and received help after his tweet.
