Rugby player Scott Baldwin was visiting a game park in South Africa with his teammates
Here's why petting a lion like it's a cuddly dog is not a wise thing to do. It's all the more stupid if you are an international Rugby player and have a big game coming up.
Welsh rugby player Scott Baldwin learned that the hard way when he was attacked by a lion in South Africa.
While visiting the Weltevreden Game Lodge in South Africa, the rugby star and his teammates were seen petting lions with metal bars safely keeping the big cats away. But in a shocking moment, one lion attacked Scott Baldwin and bit his hand. The player, screaming in pain, managed to release his hand but had to get two stitches after the mishap. He also ended up missing the game against host team "Cheetahs".
The accident was caught on camera and posted on Twitter
Everyone in the team, including Scott was warned to not to stick their hand into the enclosure, BBC quoted their boss Steve Tandy.
"It was pretty stupid on Scott's behalf and he is pretty lucky," said his boss.
On Twitter, the injured player apologised for disappointing his fans.
"Sorry all Ospreys fans for letting you and the team down by missing the game through the bite!" he tweeted.
In a subsequent tweet, he posted a video of him stroking a lioness with the caption - "should have known he wouldn't be impressed with me stroking his lioness before introducing myself to him first".
