Feminism has become a central issue in Spain's general election, to be held this weekend. But even as political parties ask for female votes, an image going viral is annoying social media users. The cutaway shot from Monday evening's televised debate shows women cleaning around the TV studio as the all-male line-up of politicians prepares for the debate, reports Euro News. The image features two women who appear to be cleaning the stage.
For some on Twitter, the image is especially ironic in an election that has brought women's issues to the fore.
"The debate has not yet begun and the first on the forehead: so much women's empowerment and so much feminine and there are two cleaning ladies with mops polishing the set. # DebateRTVE #The Debate," said one user, according to a translation by Euro News.
"They say a picture is worth more than 1,000 words. This image from the #ELDEBATEenRTVE set shows that #there's still a lot to do. They want to rule while they [women] pass the mop," said another.

The photo has sparked a row on social media, with many women questioning whether their concerns are really being represented in the elections.
"There is no female perspective. You heard them talk on the debate about feminism and the only women you could see were the ones cleaning the floor," a journalist said in an interview to Euro News in the video above.
