According to news website WFTV, Richard's son, hoping to click a good picture startled the raccoon, who in turn hopped onto the fear-inducing reptile.
"I snapped a lucky picture right when the gator slipped into the water and before the raccoon jumped off and scurried away. Without the context you'd think the raccoon was hitching a ride across the river. Pretty amazing," Jones told WFTV. "Definitely the photo of a lifetime."
His picture has since gone viral with over 3.6 million views on Imgur.
