Watch: Thane Man Thrown Out Of Police Station For 'Wearing Shorts'

Mangesh Desale says he was removed from the police station for wearing a pair of shorts.

On Saturday evening, Mangesh Desale, resident of Kalyan in Maharashtra, went to Khadakpada Police Station to get police verification done for his passport. Instead, Instead, he was humiliated and thrown out of the station by the cops, he says. His crime? Wearing shorts. In a post on Facebook, the man claims he was shamed for his choice of clothes by the cops.

"I was wearing shorts so they started shouting at me for that. I asked them if there is any rule of dress code in police station. They did not show me any rules but said this is India not America," he writes on Facebook.

The post is accompanied by two videos showing a heated exchange between Mr Desale and two officers. In the first video, a policeman at the station can be heard asking Mr Desale to follow proper dress code since women and children visit the police station.

The Kalyan resident of Mumbai's Thane district also claims he was "forcibly" removed from the station and threatened with a police case.

When asked about the video, Bala Saheb Kadam, senior police inspector told mid-day, " Our officials merely asked him to wear proper clothes while visiting the police station. Women come to the police station too, and shorts don't look good. He is an engineer; he should have better manners and know how to present himself at a police station".
