Lisa Haydon and Padma Lakshmi shared pics which show them nursing their babies.

In a bid to promote breastfeeding, explain its importance and support nursing mothers all over the world, the first week of August is celebrated as World Breastfeeding week. This year's theme is "Breastfeeding: Foundation for Life". The World Health Organization says "breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to provide children everywhere with the best start to life." Breastfeeding a baby for the first six months not only helps the child but is also beneficial for the mother. And thanks to the power of Internet, more new mothers are talking about breastfeeding and encouraging others to take up and support the practice. Celebrity moms are among those mothers leading the charge to normalise breastfeeding and promote it by sharing their pictures which show them nursing their newborn babies.

So, to celebrate and honour World Breastfeeding week, here are seven celeb mamas who have encouraged breastfeeding by sharing their pictures.

Lisa Haydon: During the World Breastfeeding Week in 2017, the actor posted a picture of herself feeding her two-month-old son, Zack. "Breastfeeding has played such a big part in getting back into shape after giving birth to my baby," she wrote on Instagram. Her post won major love online for highlighting the importance of breastfeeding and inspiring other new mothers.

Padma Lakshmi: The television host celebrated Mother's Day this year by posting a throwback picture of herself nursing her daughter Krishna Thea Lakshmi-Dell. "Multi-tasking: level 100," she captioned the photo and gave a big shout out to all those people who make the life of a working mother - especially one who's nursing - a little simpler.

Mara Martin: The model made quite a splash on the Internet recently for breastfeeding her baby daughter while walking the ramp. "I think women should be able to feed their babies how they want, when they want and where they want. End of discussion!" she wrote on Instagram.

Chrissy Teigen: Insta-famous Chrissy Teigen has been making quite a few posts about breastfeeding her second child, baby Miles. A recent picture of her nursing the baby and also pretend-feeding a doll belonging to her daughter, Luna, was trolled by some. However, the hate was nothing compared to the love the picture won.

Shveta Salve: "My Sanctum My Haven," the actor captioned this picture of herself breastfeeding her baby.

Alyssa Milano: A vocal advocate for breastfeeding, the actor posted throwback photos of herself nursing her children in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week back in 2016.

Larissa Waters: She may not be a 'celeb' as conventionally defined but former Australian senator Larissa Waters made a bid for nursing mothers everywhere by breastfeeding her daughter, Alia, in the nation's parliament. She even made political history in the process.

We hope these celeb mamas can help other mothers realise the benefits of breastfeeding and encourage them to follow suit.
