The sparrow, which as you may or may not know is the official State Bird of Delhi, is being celebrated globally today on World Sparrow Day.
Once easily spotted, house sparrows have been driven out of their natural habitat by rapid urbanisation and are disappearing at a fast rate. World Sparrow Day underlines worldwide conservation efforts and aims to increase involvement in bringing the sparrow home.
Even simple measures like placing a bowl of water outside your house will go a long way in securing the future of this bird species.
Take a cue from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav who set up a birdhouse along with his daughter.
Actor Amitabh Bachchan, who uses social media to promote the various causes and issues he supports, tweeted a poem written by his father.

Among life's simple pleasures is the joy of watching a bird go about its day.
And finally, remember this? That anthem of our childhood, Ek Chidiya Anek Chidiya.
Let's pledge to make our cities welcoming of our feathered friends so that there are always 'Anek Chidiya.'
