New Delhi:
In a world still heavily prejudiced against homosexual relationships, many parents find it impossible to accept and embrace children who come out as gay. Not so the parents of parents, it seems.
This grandfather's powerful letter of support for his grandson who came out as gay and was disowned by his mother has been read, shared and applauded by thousands online ever since it was first posted on Facebook.
Chad's mother Christine threw him out of their home, describing him and his gayness as 'a shame in the family.' Christine was roundly slammed by her father in a searing letter which begins "I'm disappointed in you as a daughter" and later says "a parent disowning her child is what goes 'against nature.'"
Chad's grandfather writes: "The only intelligent thing I heard you saying in all this was that 'you didn't raise your son to be gay.' Of course you didn't. He was born this way and didn't it any more than he (chose) being left-handed. You however have made a choice of being hurtful, narrow-minded and backward. So while we are in the business of disowning our children, I think I'll take this moment to say goodbye to you."
As a parting shot, grandpa exhorts his homophobic daughter: "If you find your heart, give us a call."
The letter was sent by Chad himself to a clothing brand that supports activism for gay rights.
