Arwal, Bihar:
More than 40 women were injured, some of them seriously, when a swarm of bees attacked them in Arwal in Bihar today.
The incident occurred when the women were offering prayers on the occasion of 'Bat Savitri Puja' under a Banyan tree, a police officer said.
It seemed a bee hive in the tree somehow got disturbed and the bees attacked the women, he said.
A stampede-like situation arose when the victims ran helter-skelter as bees stung them multiple times. Several of them were later taken to the Arwal Sadar Hospital.
"We received 40 women with multiple bee stings. Some of them were seriously injured. They are now out of danger," said Arwal Sadar Hospital Deputy Superintendent Vijay Kumar Sinha.
