5 Dead as Car Plunges 400 Metres Into Gorge Near Mussoorie

Mussoorie: Five people of a family have died after their car plunged nearly 400 metres into a deep gorge near Mussoorie in Uttarakhand today.

45-year-old Hukum Singh Kharola, his 22-year-old son Neeraj, 17-year-old daughter Preeti, wife Pramila and his aging mother were returning to their home in Dehradun after a visit to their village in Pratapnagar in Tehri, when the incident took place.

The impact of the fall was so severe that their bodies were scattered all over the hillside.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat expressed his condolences to the Kharol family and gave instructions to the Public Works Department to ensure that cats eye signals and parapets were installed immediately to avoid such incidents in the future.

Just four days ago, a similar accident, 50 metres from the same spot led to the death of four members of another family.
