Raipur: A badminton coach was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a minor tribal player in naxal-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
Coach Danvaidh Dinkar (24) was arrested from Bijapur on offence of raping the 14-year-old girl, a student at a residential school in the district, a Bijapur police officer told PTI over phone.
The officer said a group of students of the school had visited Dinkar on January 29 to learn the game, a place half a kilometre away from the school, but the victim did not return to school after which a hunt was launched to trace her.
Later, police found the girl at Jagadalpur district headquarters.
During interrogation, the girl revealed that she was raped by Dinkar on January 29 after which she went to Jagdalpur, the officer said, adding that the girl was in a state of shock.
Based on the complaint filed by the girl's parents, an FIR was lodged against the coach and he was held.
