Chittoor Mayor Shot Dead by Attackers in Burqa, Husband Injured
Chittoor: Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha was attacked with knives and then shot dead inside her office today by a group of five men who came disguised in burqas.

Her husband, Telugu Desam Party leader Katari Mohan, was also injured in the attack. He has been admitted to a hospital in Vellore and is said to be in critical condition.

According to reports, the two were inside the Mayor's chamber at the Chittoor Municipal Corporation when five men in burqas barged in and attacked them with knives and daggers and then shot at the Mayor.

Two people have been detained. Police say primary investigation suggests the murder is a fallout of a family dispute.

"As per preliminary information, the attack was carried out following a family dispute. An investigation has been launched to ascertain this. The attackers belong to Karnataka and a search has been launched to nab them," a senior police officer has said.

A pistol and a knife have been recovered from the scene of crime. State DGP JV Ramudu told NDTV factional feud and group rivalry is another angle that is being investigated as there were known rival groups operating in the area.
