Coimbatore : Students of CMS college in Coimbatore marked the 84th birth anniversary of President Abdul Kalam by lighting over 30,602 candles today.
"We are remembering every single day Dr Kalam lived as he has gave students the responsibility to make India a developed country. His words inspire us even though he's no longer with us," said Bhavna, a final year student.
"The main objective is to pay tributes to a great world personality," added Dr Ravikumar, Vice Principal of the college.
Dr Kalam died on July 27 this year in Shillong after a massive cardiac arrest while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management.
Known as the Missile Man of India, Dr Kalam played a pivotal role in the Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan and India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna.
