Bhubaneswar:
A CPI leader on Tuesday, criticized Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for permitting the Posco project and accused him of having a "soft approach" towards multi-national companies (MNC), triggering protests from Congress members against the comment.
"The Prime Minister allows Posco's project as part of his soft approach towards MNCs," CPI central secretariat member Atul Kumar Anjan said at a convention to oppose the mega plant project near Paradip. His remark, however, irked former Congress MLA Umesh Swain and party leader Bata Krushna Tripathy. Some Congress leaders walked out of the convention in protest.
"We are here to oppose the Posco project and not the Prime Minister. There is no point in criticising the Prime Minister at the meeting," said Tripathy, who also chose to leave the meeting midway. The state CPI secretary Dibakar Nayak's bid to pacify Swain and Tripathy failed. Anjan said he had 'uttered truth' on the role of thePrime Minister in Posco issue. "I cannot praise the Prime Minister to appease some people," the CPI leader said
