A 14-year-old from Uttar Pradesh was shot dead on Monday allegedly by a man who tried to sexually harass her, the police have said. The accused, who had reportedly been stalking her for some time, has been arrested.
The girl and her elder sister, who work as domestic helps in Sitapur district, were returning home from work on Monday when two men on motorbike tried to sexually harass them, the police have said.
"When the girls asked the men to stop harassing them, one of the bikers shot the younger of the two," a senior police officer told AFP.
The men fled but were arrested after the elder sister gave officers a description of them, he added.
According to local media, the sisters had complained to the police that the men had been stalking them for some time, but did not receive any help.
