Mercury Dips Below Freezing Point in Most of Himachal Pradesh
Shimla: The high altitude tribal areas and other higher hills of Himachal reeled under piercing cold wave conditions with mercury staying below freezing point at most of the places.

Wintry conditions were created in tribal areas as mercury ranged between minus five and minus eight degrees Celsius in high mountain ranges and passes.

Keylong and Kalpa in Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts recorded minimum temperatures at minus 3 degree and 1.0 degree while the key tourist resort of Manali shivered at 0.6 degree C.

The minimum temperatures dropped by three to four degrees and Bhuntar recorded a low of 5.5 degree while Shimla, Una and Solan were colder at 6.4 degree C.

Sundernagar and Dalhousie recorded minimum temperature at 7.5 degree, followed by Palampur 8.5 degree, Nahan 13.5 degree and Dharamsala 13.8 degree C.

The local MeT office predicted rains or snow at many places in mid and higher hills from November 8 to 10 and dry weather from November 11 onwards.

The maximum day temperatures also dropped marginally in spite of sunny day and Una was hottest at 28.0 degree,followed by Sundernagar 25.4 degree, Bhunter 24.5 degree, Nahan 23.7 degree, Solan 23.0 degree, Shimla 19.2 degree, Kalpa 16.6 and Manali 16.2 degree C.
