Kurukshetra: Panic spread at a private school in Kurukshetra today after a class 8 student made a hoax call of a bomb in the premises to disrupt a parent-teacher meeting, said police.
Fearing a complaint about his conduct from one of his teachers, the 13-year-old made the call to prevent his parents from attending the meet.
"We got a call from the school this morning that some unidentified person had rung up to say a bomb has been planted inside the educational institution," said Kurukshetra's Superintendent of Police Simardeep Singh.
As the panic grew in the school, police immediately swung into action.
"A parent teacher meeting was to get underway in the school in the morning. After a brief interval, the caller repeatedly rang up the school telling them they should take him seriously. The school authorities immediately called up the police," Mr Singh added.
A heavy police force, a bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs were pressed into service and the entire building was vacated and searched thoroughly.
"We searched the premises for nearly three hours, but found nothing. In the meantime, we were also trying to trace the number, which we did," said Mr Singh, adding that the "caller turned out be a Class 8 boy of the same school who was afraid of coming to the school for the parents-teachers meet".
Investigation revealed that the teachers had recently warned the student for his mischievous behaviour and told him the matter will be taken up in the meeting scheduled today.
However, the police said that no case was registered against the student and he was being counseled.
