The three-year-old boy was burnt with a spoon for not obeying his grandparents
Coimbatore:
A three-year-old boy suffered burn injuries after the owner of the house where he stays allegedly placed a heated spoon on his cheek and foot for not listening to his grandmother.
The child has been staying with his grandparents since his mother's death. They did not report the incident, which took place three days ago, fearing they may be asked to leave the house.
On Tuesday, neighbours noticed the burn marks on the child and called the government child helpline that works with NGOs.
A local organization then took the boy to a government hospital and asked the police to file an FIR.
The boy's grandmother said, "I had asked the landlady to speak sternly to my grandson because he wasn't listening to me. But she went ahead and injured him with the spoon and now he has a fire injury on his face and leg."
The landlady said she had not hurt the child deliberately and it was 'an accident.'
"The boy was playing with a hot spoon and burnt himself," she claims.
