Vadodara:
A 14-month-old child fell out of the window of a moving bus and died apparently after his mother fell asleep and lost grip over him.
The incident occurred near Varnama village on National Highway number 8 yesterday afternoon when Niluram Jat and his wife, Sharda, were going to Rajasthan in the bus, said police Sub-Inspector SA Desai.
Sharda was sitting by the window of the bus holding her son Smeet, he said, adding that the toddler could have fallen out of the window apparently after Sharda's grip loosened as she fell asleep off.
A biker, identified as Saiyed Salim Ali, who was behind the bus saw something falling out of the window and raised an alarm after seeing the baby, police said.
Smeet, who sustained grievous injuries to his spinal cord, was rushed to state-run SSG Hospital in Vadodara where doctors declared him brought dead.
"We did not know when our child fell down from window of the bus as I and my wife were sleeping," Mr Jat told PTI.
Smeet's body was handed over to his parents last night after post mortem examination, Mr Desai said, adding an accidental death case was registered under section 174 of CrPc.
