Technical Innovation in Films

Soundarya R Ashwin

Soundarya R Ashwin wears several hats - graphic designer, producer, director and daughter of South superstar Rajinikanth.

But rather than live in the shadow of her father's spectacular success, Soundarya is creating a niche for herself in the South Indian film industry, first with her production house Ocher Picture Productions, and now with her highly anticipated debut as director starring her father, Kochadaiiyaan.

Soundarya began her filmmaking journey with Sultan, a project that had to be shelved, but that did not impact her dream of bringing cutting edge technology to Indian cinema and animation.

Kochadaiiyaan is the culmination of that vision, as it's being touted as the first Indian film made using motion capture technology.

With its 3D trailer already making waves, Soundarya's ambitious project is a musical adventure with intricate period details and huge battle sequences that should be a big screen extravaganza and hopefully will launch her into a space that needs to be filled in India, that of a path breaking pioneer of women directors who seamlessly fuse technology and storytelling.
