The university provides funding, mentorship, and resources to facilitate cutting-edge research.
Universities play a crucial role in shaping the future workforce and driving societal progress. By embedding a culture of innovation, universities can prepare students to tackle complex global challenges, contribute to technological advancements, and drive economic growth. At UPES, innovation is deeply ingrained in its academic fabric, inspiring a dynamic and forward thinking educational environment.
UPES is a hub of innovation where students, alumni, and faculty collaborate on groundbreaking projects. The university emphasises solving local and global challenges through logical initiatives. Students are encouraged to tackle real-world problems with creative solutions that lead to a better tomorrow. The campus has specialised labs for engineering, computer science, and design, where students can experiment and bring their ideas to life. UPES even has a dedicated research wing that supports faculty and student research projects. The university provides funding, mentorship, and resources to facilitate cutting-edge research.
Students Power Innovation with Groundbreaking Projects
The success of UPES's innovation culture can be illustrated through several projects highlighting the achievements driven by students that deserve a mention. One of them is the Fuel V project, developed by students in the Electric Cluster's advanced engineering program. Fuel V is a device that accurately measures the amount of fuel in a vehicle and sends real-time notifications to the owner's phone. This innovation is particularly beneficial for fleet and commercial vehicle operators, such as Ola and Uber, helping them prevent fraudulent billing and significant monetary losses. The project earned second place and a cash prize of INR 1 lakh at the National Techno Fest and Higher Educational Conclave hosted by Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University, showcasing the university's commitment to practical, impactful solutions.
UPES students present innovative Flex Fuel project on Ethanol bonding.
Another groundbreaking student project is Flex Fuel, created by the B.Tech. APE Gas 2019-23 batch from the UPES School of Advanced Engineering. This project involves blending ethanol with gasoline to create four distinct fuel grades. Each grade contains varying proportions of ethanol and gasoline, offering a greener alternative for future transportation needs. The team, comprising Pushpendu Sinha, Rishabh Kinger, Siddharth Raj, Vivek Negi, and Varun Singh Kushwah, demonstrates how the university has been fostering sustainable innovation. Watch Here
Suryanshi Singh, a Product Design student, also made significant ecological impact with her Cetacean Bycatch - Dolphin Excluder Device. This project addresses the issue of dolphins getting trapped in fishing nets by emitting frequencies that simulate predator sounds, guiding dolphins away from the nets.
Students from UPES have also showcased their intellectual dexterity at competitions and hackathons developing solutions for the real world like the Smart Helmet, an IoT-based helmet that aids prevention of road accidents and sends real-time alerts to emergency services and family members, a project that was created at the 'UHackathon 2.0' event. Top three teams from the hackathon were chosen for direct participation in IEEE International Hackathon YESIST, held in Malaysia. To know more, visit the website
