Patna: Unidentified miscreants killed a security guard inside an ATM during an abortive bid to loot cash from Mauryalok shopping complex near Dakbungalow roundabout, in the heart of the state capital late Saturday night.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said that the guard, who was deputed at Central Bank of India ATM located in Mauryalok shopping complex, has been identified as Kundan Kumar, who was in his mid 40s.
The miscreants, however, were not successful in their attempt to loot cash from the ATM, SSP said.
Police said the guard was killed by a sharp weapon when he tried to resist the miscreants.
The body has been sent for post mortem, he said, adding that police are investigating the matter from all angles.
In the wake of incident, SSP has relieved Avinash Kumar from the post of Kotwali police station SHO and shunted him to the police line.
Ramshanker Singh would replace Avinash Kumar as new SHO of Kotwali police station.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Deputy SP (law and order) Shibli Nomani has been constituted to probe the incident, the SSP said.
Forensic team also collected evidence from the spot, police said.
Angry locals protested the incident by burning tyres and also demanded adequate compensation for the deceased's family.
