Filmmaker Gulzar regrets not having worked with Amitabh Bachchan

Gulzar is a Padma Bhushan and has won an Oscar, a Grammy, a couple of national and about 20 Filmfare awards.

Patna: He is a Padma Bhushan, has won an Oscar, a Grammy, a couple of national and about 20 Filmfare awards in his outstanding career marked by some of the best films of Indian cinema written and directed by him. Yet Gulzar sahab, as the filmmaker-poet-lyricist is fondly called, finds one particular feat missing from his glorious journey.

The 79-year-old filmmaker regrets not having worked with megastar Amitabh Bachchan in any of his projects so far.

"I always regret not working with Amitabh Bachchan on any solo projects. Although we collaborated twice but things didn't work out and the projects had to be shelved," Gulzar, who was in Patna to participate in the Patna Literature Festival, said during a discussion.

Gulzar won the Filmfare award for Best Dialogues for Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Anand in which Mr Bachchan played a supporting role to the then superstar Rajesh Khanna. But the filmmaker wanted to work with the megastar on a solo project and this is one thing he still finds amiss in his career.

"I always wanted to work with him on projects which are his solo. Now when I look back, this is something which has remained unfulfilled," he said.

The filmmaker also expressed his disappointment over the fact that he had planned some movies with the late Rajesh Khanna, but those projects also never took off.
