Patna:
A woman allegedly choked her daughter to death for having married against her wishes in Patna last week. The accused was arrested on Sunday.
The 22-year-old victim, Naznin Bano alias Rani, a MSc (Bio-tech) student, was found dead at her abandoned residence located on the outskirts Badi Khagaul in Patna on Friday.
The case took a twist when the victim's friend, Mohammad Mahfooz, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) on Friday, alleging it was an dishonour killing.
The Patna Superintendent of Police Kim Sharma said that the mother of the victim was arrested on Sunday after she confessed her involvement in the murder of her daughter.
According to a police official Kamod Prasad, the victim was first hit on the head while asleep and then chocked to death.
"Prima facie, it appears that she was killed after she eloped with Mohammed Mahfooz and married on April 16 against parents' wishes," said Mr Prasad.
Mr Mahfooz informed the police that the victim had even filed a petition before the court of additional chief judicial magistrate at Danapur on April 17, apprehending her parents might eliminate her.
The victim Naznin and Mohammed Mahfooz were studying in the same college in Khagaul, where they fell in love and decided to get married.
Police are investigating the case to ascertain the role of other family members in the killing.
