Gujarat State Polls 2022: 5 Things To Know About Jagdish Thakor, Key Gujarat Congress Leader

Jagdish Thakor, the state Congress chief, is expected to represent the party from the Dehgam constituency in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly Elections 2022. A two-time MLA, Thakor is one of the most prominent leaders of the Congress in Gujarat. 

The Congress has already announced its first list of 43 candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections. The polls are scheduled to be held in two phases on December 1 and December 5. The voting for 89 constituencies of the Gujarat Assembly will take place in the first phase and for the rest 93 constituencies in the second phase. The results will be announced on December 8.

– Jagdish Thakor has been elected to the Gujarat Assembly twice – in 2002 and 2007. He won from the Dehgam constituency both times.

– He was the chief whip of Congress in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2007 to 2008. During this period, he also was a member of the Public Accounts Committee in the assembly.

–  Jagdish Thakor was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009. He represented the Patan seat.

– In 2021, Jagdish Thakor was appointed as the president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC). He succeeded MLA Amit Chavda. 

– The 65-year-old leader was born in Naroda, Ahmedabad. He completed his schooling from the N S Vidyalaya in Naroda.
