Ace tennis player Vishnu Vardhan has been chosen by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) to partner Leander Paes at the Olympics. It's another feather in the cap for this 24-year-old from Secunderabad (Andhra Pradesh) who teamed up with Sania Mirza in 2010 to win the mixed doubles silver medal at the Asian Games. He also won a bronze in the men's team event at the Games.
Vishnu's love affair with tennis started when he was 8 and the racquet has been his magic wand ever since.
He won his first junior nationals in 2003 and after that, fun turned into profession. Vishnu won the men's open national in 2007, and turned pro in 2008.
Vishnu has occupied a reserve position on the Indian Davis Cup team since 2007, by virtue of which he has rubbed shoulders with the old guard, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, as well as the young turks, Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna.
Vishnu is the first Indian to be featured by the International Tennis Federation as the "Player of the Month for April, 2011". He attained a career-best best doubles ranking of 180 in February this year. His current doubles ranking is 207.
Vishnu, who is from Secunderabad, holds a BCom degree in Computer Science. He also works with ONGC as an HR executive.
Vishnu lists reading, music and yoga among his interests. He also plays the harmonica and idolises Pete Sampras.
