The Audi R8 V10 is propelled by a powerful V10 quattro engine which is being built using the lightweight Audi Space Frame (ASF) design. The company says with this model the company is trying to establish new benchmarks in the performance sports car segment.

The R8 V10 sportscar is an upgraded version of humble R8 with its 4.2-liter V8 which was built by Quattro GmbH and delivered worldwide in 2008. Looks-wise, the new model looks almost similar to the existing R8, except for a few minor differences such as the use of LED headlamp.

The Audi R8 V10 comes with gearbox consisting of 6 manual speed transmissions. These transmissions are a standard equipment that makes shifting of gears very easy. Riders can use the R-tronic mode in the transmission to achieve a maximum speed of 200 km/h in just 8.1 seconds.

Apart from engine and drivetrain, each R8 V10 model is equipped with the latest in Audi life-saving technology. The entire frame weighs just 463 pounds, making it lighter than most motorcycles. An exceptionally rigid skeleton protects the cabin and driver in the event of a collision.

On future plans, Audi India Director Michael Perschke says Audi hope to sell 4,500 units this year as compared to 3,003 units in 2010. Besides, the company also plans to increase number of dealerships from the present 14 to 20 by this year end. At present, Audi India assembles A4, Q6 and Q5 models at its Aurangabad plant in Gujarat. The plant with a single shift, has a capacity to produce 4,500-5,000 units.
