Car sales in India blaze records
India's leading carmakers posted record sales in October as a strong economy brought consumers flooding into showrooms to buy new models ahead of the religious festival season.

Hyundai Motor India reported its best-ever monthly domestic sales of 34,725 units in October, a 22.70 per cent jump compared to the same month last year. The company's previous best of 31,751 units was registered just a month earlier, in September. (Source: PTI)

Tata Motors' total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in October 2010 were 64,757 vehicles, a growth of 21 per cent over 53,404 vehicles sold in October 2009. The company's domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for October 2010 were 58,807, a 16 per cent growth over 50,552 nos. sold in October last year.

India Yamaha Motor reported 19.21 per cent increase in its total sales in October at 37,251 units. The company had sold 31,247 units in the same month last year. In the domestic market, the company's sales stood at 31,791 units, as against 26,897 in the same month last year,up 18.20 per cent. Exports rose by 25 per cent to 5,460 from 4,368 units. General Motors India sales climbed 35.59 per cent to 10,051 units in October this year compared to 7,413 units in the same month last year. The company sold 3,251 hatchbacks Spark, 957 sedans Cruze and 3,021 compact cars Beat in the reporting month. (Source: PTI)

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd has announced a 34 per cent growth in its auto sales numbers for October, which stood at 34,495 units as against 25,670 units during October 2009. The company's domestic sales stand at 32,491 units as against 24,538 units during October 2009, an increase of 32%. Auto division exports have grown by 127 per cent during the same period.

TVS Motor Company recorded a 48 per cent sales growth in October. The company registered total sales of 1,95,271 units in October 2010 against 1,31,941 units in October 2009. Cumulative total sales for the period April to October 2010, therefore, stood at 1,184,065 units.

Bajaj Auto Ltd reported its highest ever motorcycle sales in a month at 3,29,776 units in October. It had sold 2,49,681 units in October last year. The company's exports went up 31.39 per cent to 1,10,387 units in last month from 84,012 units in October, 2009. (Source: PTI)
