The 2013 Geneva Motor Show has kicked off in the Swiss town. And like every year there is a buzz and anticipation around this very important European show. Carmakers are keen to showcase more new products which will entice customers to keep buying new cars. Here are our top picks of the show. They cover everything from mass offerings to the very niche and high-end.
1. LaFerrari
It's the most anticipated car of the show since any all-new product from the prancing horse is always looked forward to with excitement. Ferrari's first hybrid supercar, LaFerrari, boasts a carbon fibre chassis and a combined power output of 963 BHP. Only 499 will be made, and Ferrari says it has got orders for 700! -
2. Rolls-Royce Wraith
If a new model from Ferrari is rare, a new Rolls-Royce is even rarer. The Goodwood-based carmaker has taken the wraps off the Wraith. It's the fastest and most powerful Rolls-Royce yet, and features a coupe body style on the Ghost platform. -
3. Bentley Flying Spur
The all-new generation of what used to be part of Bentley's Continental family is now a new stand-alone product line from Bentley. The Flying Spur is bigger and simply better, says the company, with an added emphasis on the owner in the back seat. -
4. BMW 3 Series GT
This was expected, but in flesh is a lot more appealing. After the lukewarm reception to the 5 Series GT a few years ago, it's great to see a more attractive design on this car. BMW hopes to open up a new sub-segment with the 3 GT in markets like Germany, the US, China, India and Japan. -
5. Renault Captur
It's not as flamboyant or as tall as its concept version from a couple of years ago at Frankfurt, but it's still exciting. The new compact crossover really defines the segment that is creating the most excitement in what is otherwise a dull market. Hope they consider this for India. No plans as of now. -
6. Mercedes-Benz E Class
The expected facelift is here. And if the previous car was seen as too old and boring, the new design changes make it edgy and young. A very sexy styling change makes the car appear more agile too. Unveiled in Coupe, Convertible and Sedan body styles in one go at Geneva. -
7. Skoda Octavia
The 3rd-generation Octavia has already created waves with its static unveil in December. Here at Geneva the station wagon or combi is also now out. A lot is expected from this car as it's sharper and drives better than the older model, which we know as the Laura. In India by Diwali. -
8. Suzuki SX4
A 2nd-generation product always carries a lot of expectations and it seems Suzuki has not disappointed. It looks more ample than the previous crossover hatch and is based on the S Cross concept shown at Paris last year. The sedan version is not yet unveiled but we expect the car in sedan avatar in India by the auto expo in February 2014. -
9. SsangYong Rodius/Korando Turismo
It's a big people mover that has gone under the scalpel. The previous Rodius was popular in Korea and noted in markets like the UK for its space and weird looks. The new car looks better and like the old one can seat 7-11 people, depending on configuration. It is being studied for India and is likely to be launched to target large families and operators. -
10. Infinity Q50
The Infinity G37 never quite matched up to rivals like the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series on many levels. The Q50 is the all new model that the Japanese company hopes will correct that. Larger and more attractive, the Q50 uses a 2.2-litre diesel engine, again an effort to attract more buyers in markets like Europe.
