Harley-Davidson unveils 12 models

Iconic US motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson on Tuesday said it will bring 12 motorcycles in the Indian market priced between Rs 6.95 lakh and Rs 34.95 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).

The cheapest Harley, the 883L Sportster, will cost Rs 6.95 lakh and on the expensive end, its famed classic electra glide will cost a whopping Rs 34.95 lakh.
The delivery of motorcycles will start from June 2010.
The US bike maker, which sells products in over 70 countries, forayed into India last year.

Besides motorcycles, Harley-Davidson also brings out a range accessories and general merchandise.
The Indian government in 2007 had relaxed emission and testing norms to allow import of these bikes, in return for allowing mango exports to the US.
High import duty and taxes delayed the launch of the bike in India.

"We went around the country and the response was amazing. The real cruiser experience was missing among people when we toured," the company's MD said.
How long can you give the excuses of high taxes and delay bringing in the real cruising experience.We wanted to do all in one go so that the customer is spoilt for choices,” Harley-Davidson's MD said.
For Harley Davidson, the only competitor is the Royal Enfield, the only Indian motorcycle company offering cruisers.
