Samsung forayed into the Indian tablet PC market with the launch of Android-powered Galaxy Tab.
-
Priced at Rs 38,000, the device will be up for sale from November 10.
-
The move will fuel the growth of tablet PC segment in the country, which is expected to touch 1 million units sales over the next 12 months.
-
The company is looking at a 50 per cent share of this market.
-
Samsung Galaxy Tab, which has been launched in the US and Europe, is powered with an Android operating system, and is equipped with a seven-inch TFT-LCD screen, 3 MP camera and an in-built memory of 16GB (expandable up to 32GB).
-
The device comes equipped with applications like Reader's Hub (with over two million e-books), Social Hub and Google marketplace.
-
Samsung will partner with telecom operators like Airtel, Aircel, Vodafone, Tata DOCOMO and RCom to bundle data plans with Galaxy Tab.
-
Galaxy has the world's only SUPER AMOLED screen — 4 inches display technology for HD recording and HD video playback. With sunlight readability, the high-definition contents are easily viewed outdoors.
-
Since the launch of Apple's iPad, the tablet market is witnessing huge competition with new contenders launching their devices. A tablet PC, though smaller in size, has PC-like functionalities.
-
The built-in applications on iPad were designed from the ground up to take advantage of the large multi-touch screen and other capabilities, which work in any orientation.
-
Apple's rival Dell launched 'Streak' in October in India while homegrown telecom handset makers Spice and Olive have launched similar devices at much lower price points.
-
Streak has a 5-inch screen, a rear-facing 5 MP4 camera and the front-facing VGA camera. The dimension of the device is 6-inch wide, 3.1-inch high and .4-inch thin. The high-quality, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla glass keeps the display crystal clear.
