Top ten car launches in 2013

Here are top ten cars launched in India in 2013.

  • Ford EcoSport: The runaway hit of the year. The EcoSport hits every sweet spot, since compact SUVs are all rage, but its technology USPs like the ecoboost engine or sync are its real talking points.
  • Honda Amaze: The first diesel finally from Honda. This best seller has given the reigning subcompact -- the Swift Dzire -- a run for its money.
  • Hyundai Grand i10: The next generation i10 came to India with a long wheelbase and didn't replace the smaller i10. Instead it throws open a new niche between the i10 and i20. Great value, the car has sold well with over 33,000 delivered in the first 90 days!
  • Skoda Octavia: It's finally back! After naming the last generation rather strangely (Laura), the third generation Octy is now back with the right name. Built on VW's MQB platform, this is a technologically superior product with great features and good performance.
  • BMW 1 Series: Considered the hottest hatch on the planet the BMW 1 Series is finally here, available as 116i &118d in India.
  • Mercedes-Benz A Class: Va-va-voom! Gorgeous looks and sporty character. This is a hot hatch indeed with killer looks! Not quite the performance monster as the 1 Series, but a formidable package, priced well and with plenty of variants.
  • Nissan Terrano: Yes it's a rebadged Duster, but luckily Nissan has done enough to give this compact SUV its own identity. Popular since debut, the Terrano is being seen as smart, attractive and efficient.
  • Mahindra E2O: The much anticipated new gen Reva debuted as the E2O - yes as all Mahindra's this one too had to end in O! Though slow to catch on the significance is the overall pitch to the consumer which offers a greener city car than what's on our roads.
  • Jaguar F-Type: What a worthy successor to the famed E-Type indeed. Yet another global hit for Jaguar Land Rover. And true to its promise JLR has been bringing all global launches to India.
  • Chevrolet Sail: After getting it horribly wrong with the hatch, the positioning of the DP sedan was spot on. Practical, roomy and efficient, with diesel and petrol options, the Sail is priced like a sub 4 metre but isn't.
