In Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam Ash's look was designed by National award winning designer and her personal favourite Neeta Lulla, who dressed her in colourful cholis and ghagras. She wore saris with mirror work. Her peach lehenga in the song Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyaan made her look like a dream.

Ash played the difficult role of Binodini, a young widow who indulges in a forbidden romance with her friend's husband, in Rituporno Ghosh's period film Chokher Bali (2003). Draped in a white sari with zero make-up almost throughout the movie, Aishwarya managed to infuse her pared down look with a sensuality that defied ornamentation.

Ash had a special item number Kajra Re opposite her future father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan and soon-to-be husband Abhishek in Shaad Ali's Bunty Aur Babli. Black eyed, black haired Aishwarya stole the show and broke some hearts, not least of Abhishek's character, in the song.

Rekha's breathtaking role as courtesan Umrao Jaan in Muzaffar Ali's 1981 film is a hard act to follow and perhaps Aishwarya is the only current actress who could look as beautiful as Rekha did in the 2006 remake. The movie, which marked the start of the Ash-Abhi love story, failed to impress the critics and audience but there's no denying that it's lead actress looked the part.
-
Her last film to be released before her marriage, Mani Ratnam's Guru (2007) had Ash play the role of a Gujarati girl Sujata. She looked beautiful in simple lehengas for a first few scenes and then shifted to a more sophisticated sari-clad look for the other half.

As queen Jodhaa in Ashutosh Gowariker's period romance Jodhaa Akbar 2008, Ash wore lehengaswith heavy embroidery on brocade. The royal Rajasthani touch was added with zardozi and gota patti work. Kundan and polki jewellery completed her look. No wonder, then, that she captivated an initially reluctant emperor Akbar, played by her Dhoom: 2 co-star Hrithik Roshan.
