Nina Davuluri, the first Miss America of Indian-origin, has a degree in Brain Behaviour and Cognitive Medicine from University of Michigan. She plans to be apply to medical school with her prize money, and be a doctor like her father.

For her talent routine in the Miss America pageant, Nina danced to the song Dhoom Tana from the film Om Shanti Om, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. Her routine was choreographed by So You Think Can Dance's Nakul Dev Mahajan.
The final two contestants in the Miss America pageant were both Asian-American – runner-up Crystal Lee is of Chinese-origin – a fact that Nina acknowledged, telling host Lara Spencer “We're both so proud.”
