Aamir Khan on the cover of Time magazine
Fresh from the success of his television show Satyamev Jayate, Aamir Khan has made the cover of Time magazine. Can one actor change a nation, the cover blurb asks.

Bollywood's Mr Perfectionist turns 47 today. The actor became a father for the third time with the birth of his son Azad Rao Khan in December 2011. Aamir's first child with wife Kiran, was born through IVF to a surrogate mother at a private clinic in Mumbai. Aamir Khan announced the birth with a letter sent to media organisations. "Due to medical complications, we were advised to go for IVF- Surrogacy. We are absolutely delighted. This baby is very dear to us as we've got him after a lot of difficulty. We are so happy and would like to thank all our well-wishers," he said.
Aamir was earlier married to Reena Dutta and has two children with her - son Junaid and daughter, Ira. The two split in 2002, after being married for 15 years. -
On screen, Aamir will be seen in the thriller Talaash with Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor. The release of the film has now been postponed to November 30 from its earlier scheduled release date in June. The digital poster of the film has added to the aura around the film, with the lead actors reportedly signing a non-disclosure agreement.

Besides all the action on the big screen, Aamir Khan will make his debut on TV, hosting a talk show. The show will be broadcast simultaneously in eight languages and the actor has said the show is about India and real-life stories.

He made his debut as a child artist in Yaadon Ki Baarat (1973) but made his first solo film as an adult with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988. Aamir became an overnight star and till date he is remembered for his song Papa Kehtey Hain Bada Naam Karega from the film.

In the initial years of his foray into Bollywood, Aamir did as many as three to four films a year. One such year was 1990 where he appeared in four flicks, including the superhit Dil opposite Madhuri Dixit. The following year Aamir starred opposite Pooja Bhatt in the romantic comedy Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi.

Year 1995 proved to be a turning point for the actor as he garnered rave reviews for his role of a tapori in Ram Gopal Varma's Rangeela. But despite a stellar performance in the film, he lost the Filmfare Award to Shah Rukh Khan (for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge) and it was at that time that Aamir decided to boycott all popular film awards.

Another landmark year in Aamir's life was 2001, when the actor turned producer with Lagaan. It became the third Hindi film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay! (1989) The film won 7 National Film Awards, in addition to the Filmfare Best Picture Award.

In 2001 Aamir was also seen playing the role of Akash in the first film written and directed by Farhan Akhtar, Dil Chahta Hai. Following the film's release, Aamir took a four year break following personal problems and made a comeback with Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005).

Aamir bagged the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his film Rang De Basanti in 2006. The film was also selected as India's official entry to the Oscars but was not shortlisted as a nominee. The film received a nomination for Best Foreign Film at the BAFTA Awards. More was in store for Aamir fans, when they saw the unusual pairing of Kajol and Aamir in Fanaa (2006).

Year 2010 was a relatively low-key year for Aamir. He starred in his wife Kiran Rao's directorial debut Dhobi Ghat (2011), which bombed at the box office. In the same year he produced the successful Peepli Live, a sattire on farmer suicides.
The film, which received received positive reviews, competed in the Sundance Film Festival and then screened at the Berlin Film Festival. It was named the Best First Feature Film at 31st Durban International Film Festival in South Africa. -
Aamir Khan's younger brother Faisal Khan also tried his luck in Bollywood and was first launched by their dad Tahir Hussain in Madhosh (1994). But that film flopped miserably. Faisal took a six-year-long hiatus before trying his luck in Bollywood once again, this time launched by brother Aamir in his next film Mela (2000). But that too failed at the box office. Post that Faisal was only seen in a few B-grade movies.
Aamir's once close relationship with his brother hit rock bottom, when Faisal, who reportedly suffers from schizophrenia, accused his brother in 2007 of working against his interests.
Last year, Faisal was invited to Aamir's Diwali party and some media reports said he may move in with Aamir. The two are believed to be coming closer, ever since the death of their father Tahir Hussain in 2010.
