Abhishek celebrates birthday with Ash

Abhishek Bachchan is the son of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and actress Jaya Bachchan. He was born on February 5, 1976.

While Abhishek was busy shooting in New Zealand for his birthday, wife Aishwarya ensured that he was not all by his lonesome.

Abhishek seems to be having a lot of fun on the sets of Abbas Mastan's Players, when buddy Sikandar Kher and the film's co-stars Bipasha, Omi Vaidya and Johnny Lever joined him.

It is not easy being the child of the biggest star Indian cinema has ever seen, and no one knows that better than Abhishek Bachchan.
Born on 5th February 1976, into the first family of Bollywood, Abhishek is the second child of Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan.

Abhishek's elder sister Shweta, is married to businessman Nikhil Nanda.
As a child, Abhishek went to a variety of schools in Delhi and in Mumbai and finally to Aiglon College in Switzerland.
Abhishek, who had to overcome dyslexia as a child, went on to Boston University to complete his education, when he had to come back since his father's company, ABCL had gone bankrupt.

While his father was struggling with the problems of the company, Abhishek decided to help by pursuing acting as a career.

His first film, Refugee released in the year 2000. Directed by J.P Dutta, starring Kareena Kapoor. It failed to make an impression at the Box Office. However he was nominated for Filmfare Best Male Debut Award

Even his second film Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya was a complete failure.
For the next four years, Abhishek continued to make a number of movies, but without any major success.
Apart from a dozen Bollywood films, he also acted in a few Bengali films like Desh, which starred his mother Jaya Bachchan.

Abhishek's love life was full of ups and downs. In 2002 he was engaged to Karisma Kapoor.
The engaged couple did Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya in 2002. The same year Abhishek's Om Jai Jagdish also released but both flopped at the box office.
Abhishek teamed up with Kareena once again for Sooraj Barjatya's Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon and earned praise for his performance.
The first major controversy in Abhishek's life came in 2003 when his engagement with Karisma broke.
Post Karisma, Abhi had a few flings here and there. He was said to be dating model Dipannita Sharma.
Later, he and Rani Mukherjee became a hot topic of gossip. The duo were spotted together at many awards functions and other events.
But Abhi was destined to be with someone else. He fell in love with Ash while shooting for Umrao Jaan . After much speculation concerning their relationship, Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai announced their engagement on 14 January 2007.
The couple got married on 20 April 2007, according to traditional Hindu rites of the South Indian Bunt community, to which Rai belongs.
North Indian and Bengali ceremonies were also performed. The wedding took place in a private ceremony at the Bachchan's residence Prateeksha, in Juhu, Mumbai.
Talking about his career in reel life, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost, Kuch Naa Kaho and Zameen in 2003 proved dud for Abhishek.
In 2004, Abhishek starred in Mani Ratnam's Yuva which not only received great critical appraisal, but also brought accolades for his acting talent.
This was also the year he acted in Dhoom which too was a major hit.
The alliance between Abhishek and Ram Gopal Verma started in 2004 with the movie Naach. The film, which starred Antara Mali along with Abhishek was one of Ramu's massive failures.
2005 proved very lucky for Abhishek . The first release of the year was Bunty Aur Babli opposite Rani Mukherjee, one of his most frequent leading ladies. The movie did very well at the box office.
The other big hits of 2005 were Sarkar, Dus and Bluffmaster.
Rumours about Ash and Abhi being a couple started with the shooting of Umrao Jaan where Ash was playing the title role while Abhi played Nawab Sultan Khan. The two remained tight lipped even after the release of the film.
Abhishek was part of yet another superhit film in 2006 - Dhoom: 2.

Just a month before Ash and Abhi tied the knot, Mani Ratnam's Guru released which was a hit.

Abhishek also appeared in a supporting role in Apoorva Lakhia's Shootout at Lokhandwala.

Probably one of the most heavily criticised films that Abhishek ever did was Shaad Ali's Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007).

Abhishek did an item song for Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag which was a remake of the legendary Sholay. He appeared in the song based on Mehbooba O Mehbooba, in the role originally essayed by Jalal Aga.

In 2008 Abhishek acted in Pradeep Sarkar's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. Despite a silent breakup with Rani many years ago, the two maintain a healthy professional relationship, unlike others in Bollywood.

Ramu, Big B and Abhishek came back in 2008 with a sequel to Sarkar called Sarkar Raaj. Ramu went even a step ahead and included Ash in the film to more or less complete the Bachchan parivaar on screen. The film was a hit.

One of Abhishek's worst judgements was Goldie Behl's Drona where he tried his hand at sci-fi and mythology. The film flopped.

Abhishek restored his plunging success rate with his last film of 2008, the hugely popular Dostana directed by Tarun Mansukhani, where he starred along with John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra.

Abhishek also worked for Rakeysh Omprakash Merhra's Delhi 6. The movie was a massive flop at the Box-Office.

In 2009 Abhishek starred in R. Balakrishnan's Paa and played father to his own father Amitabh Bachchan, who played the role of a 13 year kid suffering from Progeria.

His last two ambitious films, Mani Ratnam's Raavan and Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, also proved to be major flops.

In recent years, the couple has hit headlines more for their appearances in fashion shows, red carpets and talk shows than films. They also appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The actor also did a game show – Bingo - on television.

Abhishek's upcoming action thriller Game stars Sarah-Jane Dias, Kangna Ranaut, Boman Irani, and Jimmy Shergill, will hit the theaters in April this year.
