Rumours about Ash and Abhi being a couple started with the shooting of Umrao Jaan where Ash was playing the title role while Abhi played Nawab Sultan Khan. The two remained tight lipped even after the release of the film.

Abhishek was part of yet another superhit film in 2006 - Dhoom: 2.

Just a month before Ash and Abhi tied the knot, Mani Ratnam's Guru released which was a hit.
Abhishek also appeared in a supporting role in Apoorva Lakhia's Shootout at Lokhandwala. -
Probably one of the most heavily criticised films that Abhishek ever did was Shaad Ali's Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007).
Abhishek did an item song for Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag which was a remake of the legendary Sholay. He appeared in the song based on Mehbooba O Mehbooba, in the role originally essayed by Jalal Aga. -
In 2008 Abhishek acted in Pradeep Sarkar's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. Despite a silent breakup with Rani many years ago, the two maintain a healthy professional relationship, unlike others in Bollywood.

Ramu, Big B and Abhishek came back in 2008 with a sequel to Sarkar called Sarkar Raaj. Ramu went even a step ahead and included Ash in the film to more or less complete the Bachchan parivaar on screen. The film was a hit.

One of Abhishek's worst judgements was Goldie Behl's Drona where he tried his hand at sci-fi and mythology. The film flopped.
