Ajay, Bipasha in Aakrosh

The Ajay Devgn, Bipasha Basu and Akshaye Khanna starrer Aakrosh is based on honour killings in the state of Bihar.

Ajay Devgn plays the role of Pratap Kumar, is a CBI officer. Imperative to the storyline is the fact that Pratap is a Dalit

Due to his background, Pratap is well versed with the intricacies the inter-race relations in the small town of Jhanjhar. He then carefully treads and charms his way through the curt residents of the small town district.

Siddhant Chaturvedi, played by Akshaye Khanna, is an idealistic CBI officer who follows the letter of the law.

Geeta (Bipasha Basu) is born to a well to do family, and her life is full of fun and frolic until she gets married. Thus begins her tedious journey on the choppy seas of married dilemmas.

Her husband is brutal and at every point wants to snatch away Geeta's individuality and crush her personality (literally and metaphorically) into the ready mould of what women are supposed to be like. Traumatised by events, she chooses indifference.

Amita Pathak's character Roshni is the daughter of the most influential and richest family in the district. Sheltered from the moral dilemmas and unaware of the consequences, Roshni gets caught up in a romance with a boy from a lower caste than her. This is the point at which the story unfolds into one of the biggest investigations in the area based on inhumane crime.

Paresh Rawal's portrayal Ajatshatru Singh, a corrupt police officer is of flawless contradiction. He may be a sweet talker, but occassionally one can catch a glimpse of his disgust for those belonging to the lower castes. Being his dishonorary self, he bends the laws and misuses his power whenever he deems fit.

Sameera Reddy will be performing an item number that has already cast ripples of excitement for the movie. Tere ishq se meetha has her swishing those tantalising hips for all the lecherous sorts to see...

The story plot is focused on honour killings in India, especially in the rural areas.

Based in the remote district of Jhanjhar in Bihar, where three students go missing while on a visit, Siddhant Chaturvedi(Akshaye Khanna) and Pratap Kumar(Ajay Devgn) go to investigate.

The story unfolds as the duo start finding clues as to what happened to the three lower caste boy, and sheer havoc embraces Jhanjhar as certain known (but never said) ugly truths come to light.

Directed by Priyadarshan, Aakrosh is an action thriller. The cast for the film includes Ajay Devgn, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Paresh Rawal and Amita Pathak in lead roles.

Produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak under the banner of Big Screen Entertainer, the film is slated for release on 15 October 2010.

The censor board has clamped down heavily on the dialogues and visuals of Priyadarshan's Aakrosh. The director says he would neither accept cuts nor the A-certificate for his issue-based directorial venture.

Set in Jhanjhar in Bihar, the film revolves around the killings of three students of Delhi University who go missing in the dusty village. The government appoints two CBI officers - Siddhant Chaturvedi and Pratap Kumar - to solve the case.

"On one hand I am accused of selling out mindless comedies, (but) none of my supposedly mindless comedies has ever got into trouble. On the other hand when I make an issue-based film, it gets stuck. How will I do something meaningful when our moral guardians don't seem to believe in my vision?"

Priyadarshan admits there are shocking scenes of violence in the film. But he feels they are indispensable to the film's subject.

"It is hard-hitting. But not an offbeat experimental film. We want younger generations to watch the film, to become aware of the frightening reality that surrounds their existence. Unless we let younger viewers grow aware of the reality, we can't change the aberrations in society. So yes, I won't settle for an A-certificate. Let me make films that have a social purpose. Or I go back to making De Dana Dan."

Kumar Mangat's earlier film Omkara, which replicated the visual and vocal violence of the North Indian backwater town, also was given an A-certificate.
